July 13, 2013, 12:30pm ? Well it looks like BlackBerry is on the roll to regain its market share, and hopefully, to generate additional revenue.
Just recently, BlackBerry?s retail partners drop the price of the BlackBerry Z10, and in line, the Z10 is also cheaper online specifically the unlocked BlackBerry Z10 which supports any GSM carriers both in the US and overseas.
BlackBerry?s strategy is similar to Apple and Google?s Nexus line, it gains revenue from phone sales, and adds more customers on ecosystem that would purchase apps and other content like movies, TV shows, etc.
The new BlackBerry Z10 with $49.99 will not only help BlackBerry?s phone sales, but it would also give them the chance to retain a paying customer with the carrier?s 2-year contract agreement. Sounds profitable right? But for some analysts, BlackBerry?s efforts wouldn?t be enough to save it from sliding revenue and market share.

Forbes.com contributor Todd Ganos said in a new blog post that there?s a ?little hope for BlackBerry? and citing the latest data from Kantar Worldpanel which revealed that BlackBerry?s US market share is shrinking, and now with 4.6 percent of the market only ? far from its ginormous 50 percent market share.
Though he sounded skeptical that BB 10 can revive BlackBerry?s business, Ganos noted that BlackBerry is not just a phone maker, but also a service company that offers?a number of communications infrastructure services ? obviously, that includes BlackBerry Messenger.
BlackBerry?s CEO Thorsten Heins already said that the BlackBerry Messenger will expand to Android and iPhone, and would hit both stores later this Summer, but the clock is ticking, the BlackBerry for Android and BlackBerry for iPhone apps are still not available, missing in action and losing potential millions in revenue.
Bear in mind that similar apps like WeChat, WhatsApp and Viber are already raking in millions in revenue with their multi-platform support. Safe to say, BBM is still the most popular and most appealing instant-messaging service in the world, and it can generate bigger revenue than its future rivals ? but how?
According to Charles Golvin of Forrester Research, as reported by?NYTimes.com, BBM for Android and iPhone?s?financial gain ?would be indirect? and just a tool that would help BlackBerry lure customers to its platform ? but that?s impossible, at least for me, BlackBerry, just like WhatsApp, can charge customers by bringing premium services like video and voice calling and other ?premium? services ? the only question now is whether customers on Android and iPhone are willing to pay for BBM?s add-on services.
